Today each group presented the information they acquired in their research of their territories. SOme of the territories, like the Louisiana Purchase, were familiar to the students. Other territories, like the Gadsden Purchase, had history that is not all that well known amongst most Americans. Ask your chidren tonight what they learned about the Lousiana Purchase, Texas Annexation, Mexican Cession, Gadsden Purchase, and the Oregon Territory. In particular ask them how the land was acquired and the benfefits each territory had for the country. Each one has a unique and important story!

Tour of U.S. Capitol We will be going on our final field trip on Tuesday, June 5th. We always end the 5th grade year with a tour of the National Mall. We start the day at the Lincoln Memorial and end at the U.S. Capitol Building. Along the way we stop at the Smithonsian Museum of American History where we learn about all the different eras of American history in one place! There are many amazing artifacts there including George Washington's uniform, the desk that Robert E. Lee signed signed the surrender papers at the end of the Civil War, and the last Huey Helicopter flown in Vietnam. |
